A tree grows in Manhattan

This view from The High Line (itself a repurposed relic of an earlier time) made me imagine a harbinger of the dystopian future many people are thinking about. One where trees grow out of cracks in the streets and rooftops and exhaust systems because no one is there to maintain the human landscape. Or the one where too many people in dire survival mode are unable to care for their crumbling urban world anymore.

Otherwise, it was a lovely day and a lovely walk. The first day after the first trip by plane since February 2020, at the onset of the rumbling pandemic.
